… the Day I Met the Guardian Angel of Route 66

Happy Birthday, Angel Delgadillo β the Angel of Route 66, a man whose life is woven into the very fabric of the Mother Road.
As Route 66 approaches its 100th anniversary, itβs impossible not to think of you. Without your passion, your stubborn belief, and your love for this road, so much of its history might have quietly slipped into the past. Instead, it lives on β vibrant, breathing, and full of stories.

I had the incredible fortune of meeting you back in 2010, completely by chance. You had just left your shop and were heading home on your bicycle. It was one of those moments that doesnβt feel real at first. I remember turning to my partner and saying, βThatβs Angel Delgadilloβ¦ the same Angel I had just seen in a documentary. The man who saved Route 66.β
We started talking, and you shared your story β the same story, perhaps, that you have told so many visitors over the years, yet it never loses its magic. You spoke about how Seligman suddenly fell silent when the interstate bypassed it, how life seemed to come to a haltβ¦ and how, against all odds, it found its way back to life.
That moment has stayed with me ever since. Not just because I met a legend, but because I met the spirit of Route 66 in person.

Today, as you celebrate another remarkable year, you are more than a witness to history β you are a reason it continues to exist. Your years are milestones, your story a guiding light, and your legacy stretches as far as the road you helped save.
Happy Birthday, Angel Delgadillo β a true legend of the Mother Road. As Route 66 celebrates 100 years, we honor the man who refused to let it disappear. Your passion turned fading pavement into living history, and your years are milestones we deeply admire.

Iβm patiently waiting out trip to Route 66 this July/August! Wishing I could meet this great man!
